Our Commitment to Care

At Dove Healthcare, we believe in utilizing our expertise and skills to provide those in need with the treatment they require to get back to their daily routine and life. Our commitment to care does not waiver, even with the understanding that wound care data reported to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) negatively impacts our quality indicators, which in turn lowers our rating in the CMS 5-Star Rating System. A quality indicator is not, in fact, an indicator of quality; but rather, it is a reflection of the care needs, diagnosis and outcomes of the resident population compiled by the federal government from data submitted on a routine basis by a nursing facility. One of those quality indicators is the number of residents with pressure ulcers present in a facility. This quality indicator does not take into account if the pressure ulcer developed outside of or within the facility or if there are risk factors that may predispose a resident to developing a pressure ulcer (i.e. diabetes).

In 2008, Dove Healthcare approached several area healthcare providers to implement a Community Wound Nurse Committee. The goal of the committee is to work across the healthcare continuum to prevent pressure ulcer development. The committee includes nurses from both acute and long-term care settings. They meet regularly to develop practice guidelines to improve the transition for a patient from one setting to another and create measures to prevent pressure ulcer development.
